What happens if we want to explore a project with Farmera?

A typical project starts with the waste stream or business problem itself:

  • What material are you dealing with?
  • What are the volumes, seasonality, and constraints?
  • What is the current cost of waste, loss, or underutilization?
  • What commercial direction makes the most sense: ingredient, product, material, or process improvement?
Can your solutions fit into existing production lines, or do they require major changes?

Where possible, Farmera aims to build solutions that work within real industrial settings. In the avocado platform, for example, the production flow is designed around existing steps such as sorting, washing, pre-treatment, coating, drying, packaging, and storage, and the company explicitly positions the solution as fitting current production lines. That same commercial mindset applies more broadly: the goal is not elegant theory, but solutions that can be piloted, scaled, and adopted.

What proof do you have that your work can deliver real results?

Farmera’s current avocado case study shows a shelf-life extension of more than 14 days, while reducing water loss, delaying browning, preserving texture and taste, and improving point-of-sale quality.

More broadly, our model is built around practical development work: identifying a waste or loss problem, building a usable technical solution, and moving toward industrial relevance. Gruda’s working model also reflects this, with a structured development path around KPIs, prototypes, pilot milestones, and commercial readiness.

What is your shelf-life technology, and how does it fit into the broader company?

One of Farmera’s active technology platforms is an advanced functional coating for fruits and vegetables. The system forms a thin coating using emulsifiers and surface-active agents that helps regulate oxygen and ethylene exchange, slowing ripening, decay, and quality loss while preserving product characteristics. It is one example of how we approach value preservation across the chain, but it sits within the bigger Farmera mission of reducing waste and recovering value from agriculture.

Do you only work on food ingredients?

No. Food is a major part of the business, but not the only one.

Farmera works across ingredients, food applications, process redesign, and material innovation. Depending on the stream, the right answer may be:

  • a new food ingredient
  • a functional system or formulation
  • a biomaterial
  • an industrial application
  • a new way to reduce losses in an existing production process

That range is important, because not every waste stream should go back into food. Sometimes the better answer is packaging, materials, logistics, or another industrial use.
